In September 2011, we decided to rename our Eco and School Council as F.E.S.C - to incorporate Fairtrade, Eco and School Council.

Our F.E.S.C representatives this year are:-

Caitlin and Bobby (Reception)

Gabriel and Josh (Year 1)

Isabelle and Kate (Year 2)

Eleanor and Shay (Year 3)

Ceris and Morgan (Year 4)

Akeel and Emma (Year 5)

Joe and Hannah (Year 6)

Action Plan

Our Action plan includes the following:-

To become a Fairtrade School.

To have new equipment on our Junior yard.

To extend our links with our partner school in the Gambia.

To establish a meadow for school, nursery and community use.

To investigate ways of saving water to use in our garden and pond area.

Last half term the F.E.S.C group organised and ran a very successful Harvest Fairtrade Assembly, which incorporated songs, poems, a dance, and a rap performed by all pupils in the school.

PONTHIR SCHOOL AND ECO COUNCIL

Our School & Eco Council for 2010/11 have been elected.  High on their list of priorities will be becoming a Fairtrade School.

WE ARE A GREEN FLAG SCHOOL!

Update - January 2011

Our Eco and School Council are:- Gabriel Jones and Rachel Thomas (Reception), Evie Thomas and Isabel Walker (Year 1), Amy Jewitt and Ellie Redman (Year 2), Cerys Rogers and Morgan Oliver (Year 3), Akeel Miah and Emma Hiscock (Year 4), Joe Perry and Hannah Waktkins (Year 5), Amber Wassall and Keelin Jenkins (Year 6).

We have held several meetings so far.  We have discussed a range of suggestions from the rest of the school including ideas for the garden area, improving the toilets, the school hall and the possibility of a Fair Trade tuck shop.  We have started to create some Eco Art to help improve the school grounds.  We have set up a Fair Trade steering group who have agreed a new Fair Trade policy, and who are going to help pursue Fair Trade status for the school.

Update - March 2010

The greenhouse (made from recycled plastic bottles) is finished.  Big thanks to the Greenhouse Club and Mr Townley for all their hard work completing this project.  We are already planning what we will grow in our greenhouse.  We have been 'chitting' seed potatoes ready for planting, and the garlic bulbs are growing nicely.

Update - January 2010

In our meetings last term, several very good suggestions were received and passed on to Mrs Spooner for her to consider.  The time capsule is almost ready for burying - a date will be set at our next meeting.  The greenhouse is almost finished - just the roof to go!  We are going to decide what we would like to put into our greenhouse ready for planting in the Spring/Summer.  We planted some garlic bulbs in our vegetable plot just before Xmas - and they have started to grow!  We have started a school collection to raise money to send to Haiti.

September 2009

The School and Eco council held their first meeting of the new term.  Suggestion boxes are going to be placed in each classroom so that the children can put forward their ideas.  Joe Perry had a great idea; he suggested that we create a time capsule.  Each child is going to create some work to put inside the time capsule which will be buried in our school garden.  We are going to take part in the Keep Wales Tidy event by carrying out a litter-pick in and around our village.
