Our school enjoys a beautiful rural position in a village community. Children join us at four years of age and leave at eleven. Ponthir Church in Wales School is within the official catchment area of Caerleon Comprehensive School . We have close links with the Ponthir Play Group and Seren Fach Nursery and After School Club which offers 'wrap around care' for all ages. Seren Fach is sited alongside our school, and the children are regular visitors to our school and school grounds.

Originally owned by Llanfrechfa Parish Church our school was founded in 1862 and was known as Llanfrechfa School .  Before this date the church had provided schooling in a wooden building within the church grounds and prior to that in the church porch!   In  1975  pupils transferred to a new building on the present site. 

Clergy from All Saints Church visit most weeks to take assembly, and we also have close links with Ponthir Baptist Church . We accept pupils from all faiths.
